The Library Company is excited to announce its new membership
in Flickr Commons,
which features digital collections from cultural heritage institutions and
encourages further sharing, commenting and crowdsourcing by the general public.
The Library Company has been contributing digital
collections to Flickr since 2008, during which time there have been more than
half a million views of our collection materials by people from around the
world. On March 16, the day the account was activated and publicized, daily views of the Library Company's Flickr page shot up to over 32,000. The new account will expose the
digital collections to those specifically seeking images from cultural heritage
institutions. More information on the Library Company’s new membership can be
found in a recent blog post press release by Flickr Commons.
The Library Company’s Print Department Assistant and Digital
Collections Manager Nicole Joniec, who coordinated the new Flickr account and
has generally expanded our digital footprint, has recently earned a Digital Archives
Specialist certificate from the Society of American
Archivists (SAA). She attended SAA workshops and webinars on digital
preservation, digital forensics, copyright, and information architecture and
successfully completed a comprehensive examination. Nicole, who is also
enrolled in a Masters of Library and Information Science program at Drexel
University, is actively applying her newfound skills to the Library Company’s
digital collections.
